Fallen Officers
The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office has lost 3 deputies in the line of duty, these officers paid the ultimate price for the safety of Rogers County citizens.
Deputy J. Hurt Flippin - End of Watch: September 19th 1932
Deputy Sheriff Hurt Flippin and Special Deputy Andrew McGinnis, of the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office, were shot and killed while attempting to arrest two men wanted for the murder of Deputy Sheriff Webster Reece of the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office and Officer Frank Edwards of the Tahiequah Police Department the previous day.
A shootout occurred and both deputies were shot. Deputy McGinnis was killed instantly and Deputy Flippin succumbed to his wounds the following day.
The two suspects were shot and killed by other members of the posse.

Deputy Albert Pike Powell - End of Watch: February 4th 1934
Deputy Sheriff Albert Powell was shot and killed as he and the Chelsea city marshal surprised three men burglarizing a store.
The two officers were patrolling together when they observed the men walking away from a local hardware store. The city marshal turned the car around and as they came close the men opened fire, killing Deputy Powell.
The body of one of the suspects was found outside of town a short time later. Officers speculated that he had been shot and killed by his companions. One suspect was apprehended several days later and charged with several crimes including Deputy Powell’s murder. The murder charge was later dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
Deputy Powell had served with the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office for one year.

Reserve Deputy Gary Lee Cook - End of Watch: October 17th 1998
Reserve Deputy Gary Cook was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while directing traffic for a youth soccer tournament at State Highway 266 at 6:40 am.
The vehicle that struck Deputy Cook traveled another 400 feet before leaving the roadway into a deep ditch. The two occupants then fled the scene and evaded arrest in a heavily wooded area.
Deputy Cook had served with the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office for 25 years. He is survived by his mother.
